Dissertation: Medical Targets and The Therapeutic Development in Parkinson’s Disease (CHAPTER 6)

Chapter Summary and Conclusion

This chapter presents summary and conclusion of this research paper. Through this study treatment options for Parkinson’s disease is reviewed by using previous researches based on observation and experiments. Introduction of paper introduced the research question, research methodology and research objectives and rationale of the research. In the introduction, question is introduced that has to be done throughout the research using literature review. As defined in the introduction chapter that this paper aims to find the treatment available for PD, literature review conducted using previous studies made about the Parkinson’s disease and different treatment approaches used for PD. As from very beginning, to keep the paper focus on the topic, literature review was started with the opening question about the treatment available for PD. Third methodology chapter is mainly used to explain method chosen for conducting the study. The research design adopted for this study is qualitative research and secondary data will be analyzed as primary data. The chapter also discussed the weaknesses and strengths of research design. The result chapter is the depiction of result gathered through the study. Since this chapter aims to find the treatment options available for Parkinson’s disease, the findings of the research shows that there are two major clinical approaches for treating PD: pharmacology and non-pharmacology approach. Therefore chapter result showed two different approaches including the way affect the disease.  Result are shown using tables to make it comprehensive and clear. The chapter discussion, analysis and interpretation are an important chapter it includes discussion, critical analysis related to result of the paper.

Secondary data shows that development for PD treatment has changed so fast in past years and these developments have remarkable contributed in the treatment options for PD (Gronseth et al, 2006). However, within pharmacological treatment there are many new drugs developed those are more effective than previous drugs in terms of overcoming the symptoms of PD. Many studies have indicated that effect of these drugs are usually different and varies individual to individual.  Hire uk coursework service Although all the drugs prescribed are intended to improve the quality of life by reducing the symptoms (Factor& Weiner, 2008), these drugs have some long term and short side effects. It is also found that use of drugs for treatment of PD attempts to control the progression rate of disease by slowing down the loss of dopamine in the brain and reduce the symptoms of disease (Frosini& Bonuccelli, 2009). There are some evidences about the complications regarding the surgical approach such as brain hemorrhages, aphasia, hemiparesis, and coma or can result as death (Kleiner-Fisman et al, 2006). Studies further explain the risks involved in the surgery as treatment option for PD. According to them, surgery can cause bleeding in the brain and cause stroke. Such stroke is deadly and affects the brain either mildly or permanently (Jankovic, 2008). Moreover, surgery replaces the electrode that can increase the increase the risk of infection such as Hallucinations, Apathy (unresponsiveness to social or emotional matters), Edema (swelling) of the brain tissue, hypersexuality, compulsive gambling, and depression (Rezak, 2007).
